Dan Kerr, co-writer of the Mystery Destiny series, achieved his lifetime membership with the International Association for Identification in 2024 for his work with evidence collection at sudden death and crime scenes. Dan combined his professional police knowledge with his personal experience involving multiple intensive care admissions and invasive ventilation, to become a cozy mystery writer.

Dan and his character Beth both have Wake Malignant Hyperthermia. Research has reduced the fatality rates for this genetic condition from 70% in the 1970s to 9.5% with Dantrolene, a muscle relaxant. However, malignant hyperthermia continues to be a life-threatening, poorly understood condition triggered by anesthetics, heat, or exertion. Even DNA testing only diagnoses about 50% of cases.

Dan tried working as a rural postal carrier when retired, but as his dogs didn’t fit in the truck with all the mail, he decided to build airplanes instead. He knows there’s always a reason for going postal.
